ONLINE COURSES TESTIMONIALS

I view these on-line courses as lifesavers; twice weekly tutorials and all the hard work in between have given me purpose and commitment.
The benefits of one-to-one tuition from such a brilliant artist and tutor as Julian cannot be overstated. At times challenging, his constructive criticism and encouragement are invaluable and I’ve learnt a lot.

Such fun, we were meant to be over in Italy now so this is the next best thing!

I can’t say enough good about Artist in Italy and the virtual art courses. There are painters. There are artists. And there are teachers. Julian manages to be all three. He does more than just paint—he sees beauty everywhere and captures it on canvas. And he does more than just teach—he teaches you to see. He gives you the tools to create the kind of art you want to make, he willingly shares his best secrets, and he celebrates your successes along with you. I feel like I’ve advanced more as an artist in the past few months than I have in years, and my confidence has grown by leaps and bounds.

It really has been terrific. Although I can’t wait to visit Italy in person again, this online experience has been such a blessing. It’s helped me do more than just keep my sanity throughout this pandemic—I feel like I’m thriving.

Not only is Julian incredibly knowledgeable about all matters relating to art such as history, methods, materials, art forms and styles but his bright and cheerful nature and unbounded enthusiasm for his subject make being part of his art world a great pleasure.

His, knowledge, humour and encouragement make the sessions interesting and fun and makes it the next best thing to actually being there. The encouragement and guidance have been what I have needed to push me forward with my art. During the sessions, I am motivated and he has helped me to take a deeper look at my subjects and to be confident in my style. Julian is an amazing artist in his own right, and he is not afraid to share his experience and knowledge. The twice weekly art sessions also keep you focused on your projects and the encouragement is immeasurable.

Artist in Italy/Easel & Lens saved my enthusiasm for art and international travel. Julian is an exceptional instructor, he wants the student to excel in whatever project or medium they are using or want to experience.

The Virtual Studio saved me from sitting in despair as our country entered lockdown. Now I could continue my art education from Italy through the medium of live streaming, what a wonderful idea. I’m still going to miss the fresh air, fresh figs, and fresh Italian foods, but I’m still painting and learning. I’m finding my enthusiasm for color, and color formulation, is pushing me more toward becoming a Colorist, and I like that. This never would have happened had I not invested time and money in continuing my artist education with a genuine art teacher like Julian. I encourage anyone that wants to expand their art skills and education to visit in person or online, Artist in Italy / Easel and Lens. Until we meet again in person, the Virtual Studio is the next best thing to being there.

Julian has taken us to Venice, Florence and now Rome in this interesting virtual class. Each class we look forward to visiting a different city/region and learn a brief history about the area, rulers, interesting tidbits and facts about those areas. Also, Julian focuses on the most well known artists and most famous works produced there, as well as, the architectural styles and famous landmarks. We find the art history fascinating. Each week we get images to print and use for class. During class we do quick renderings of these and Julian shows us step-by-step how to begin the drawings and gives ideas on how to do them for this travel journal class. You will not get bored and we move quickly with three drawings/watercolors per class. It’s great for beginners to advanced artists. There is a show of the work at the end and Julian gives feedback & suggestion on things so we may finish them up on our own. We recommend this class and would take it again!

Working with Julian on line was a really positive experience. Initially I did wonder how it would work out but after a few minutes of zoom I felt like I was back in the studio in Tuscany, laughing and joking but also being guided and extended under Julian’s keen eye. I have had many art teachers over the years but Julian has an uncanny ability to quickly grasp where it is I want to go, what is getting in the way and how to get there! As a result of my month’s online tuition I am now back painting everyday with a confidence I hadn’t been able to find in a long time.

As events unfolded around the world this spring, the likelihood of my travelling to a retreat became smaller and smaller. Having attended 2 retreats before with Julian, I was excited at the opportunity to continue learning with him virtually, both individually and in small groups. As always, Julian was supportive and encouraging of the projects I wanted to pursue. He is very knowledgeable and intuitive in his teaching and quickly picked up on my ‘trouble areas’, which he then tailored his instruction to. As an educator myself, I appreciate that Julian is open to trying new ideas and ways of teaching, adapting to my style and pace of learning.
