VIRTUAL STUDIO \ GROUP LESSON DESCRIPTION

In this course we’ll be spending a month exploring 4 of the great artists of Provence, in the beautiful South of France.

Paul Cezanne, the grandfather of Modernism, and his wonderful paintings of Mont St. Victoire from his sister’s house in Aix en Provence. We will look at his life and his work, and his influence on the great painters that came after him, as well as painting our version of one of his masterpieces. Vincent Van Gogh painted some of his most sublime paintings at Arles, in Provence. We will look at this period in his turbulent life and use some of his powerful colours in our paintings.

Henri Matisse was born in the North of France, but was so captivated by the light in the South he spent the last 4 decades of his life painting there. Again, we will visit his life story before attempting our own mini-Matisse! Pierre Auguste Renoir, another great afrtist who spent a considerable part of his painting life in provence, portraying the vibrant colors and relaxed atmosphere of the region - so will we!

Join Julian and a small art group together online, for 4 x 100 minute lessons throughout the month.

The classes are a great mix of Art History, a little culture, and of course plenty of drawing and painting in our virtual travel journals.

Students will be working alongside Julian during these live sessions as he explains the background to the work and then for the last hour of the class he starts his own painting while you make yours. This way you can constantly be referring and checking as you go. The group will be limited to 12 students (in 3 timezone groups) in order that you will have an opportunity for one-on-one personal assistance and a little critique at the end. We hope this will be a lot of fun and that the group atmosphere will inspire you to produce some terrific artwork.

GROUP LESSONS

All levels welcome. From beginner to professional, these virtual lessons are valuable to expand your abilities, skills, and range of possibilities. In a fun and relaxed atmosphere, you’ll be able to receive the time and attention you’ll need to accomplish your goal of either continuing on current work, or creating something new for the first time!

Each group online lesson will be conducted through Zoom (the virtual classroom). We will send complete instructions on how to easily connect to this after sign up. All you’ll need to do is click the link and we’ll be waiting!

INSTRUCTOR

Julian Hyzler will be your instructor for this unique online program. As the founder of Artist in Italy and Easel&Lens, he has been leading international art groups since 2012 and teaching students of all ages and abilities for over 25 years. Adept in various mediums and techniques, from painting (oil, acrylic, water) and drawing, to photography and mixed media, Julian will lead each student in a personalised program designed for each skill-level and interest.
