OVERVIEW

THE HOTEL

This magnificent retreat will take place at one of Europe’s top voted hotels by Conde Nast, The Royal Champagne Hotel & Spa, just outside Epernay, in the heart of the Champagne region. Overlooking vineyards that stripe the hills, the immaculately designed hotel re-imagines the perfect wine-country retreat. Spread across a Modernist wing and a 19th-century Post House, the hotel embraces the lush bounty of the wineries and the UNESCO World Heritage Site that surrounds it. The world-class spa with indoor pool, a chef-led gastronomic Michelin restaurant, and the sweeping views make this the perfect winter retreat location to cosy up, enjoy some wellness, have a glass of bubbly, and celebrate the year ahead.

All guest rooms will be appointed in the spacious suites with spa baths, views over the vineyards and terrace.

“Perched high on a vine-clad hill with sweeping views over the unspoilt Marne Valley is this historic coaching inn, refashioned into a gleaming modernist shrine to the Champagne region that surrounds it. Interiors are light and effervescent, the food is sensational and the spa is a destination in its own right.

It was created by architect Giovanni Pace, known for his work at the renowned champagne house of Moët & Chandon. The whole design draws on local quartz stones and acres of glass emphasising the verdant valley outside and imbuing the building with an overwhelming feeling of lightness. The façade curves cleverly to make different terraces for the swimming pool, the spa, the herb garden and the restaurant.

Elegant interiors weave references to the twigs and flowers from the grapevines on the walls, while bubbles are found in the metal work, the lights suspended from the ceiling by Giampato & Coombes and scattered across the walls of the treatment rooms in the spa. Natural materials of oak and stone are used throughout root the building in its rural surroundings. —telegraph.co.uk

SURROUNDING AREA

Guests will not only enjoy the hotel and encompassing estate, but we’ll be able to experience this area up close and personal with a day in the famous Champagne village of Epernay, where we’ll enjoy a visit to one of the exclusive and special boutique Champagne houses for an experience through their cellars that is unlike any other. We’ll enjoy a tasting before exploring the village. We’ll also be sure to visit the capital city of the Champagne region, Reims, famous for its impressive and very historical cathedral which rivals Notre Dame. We’ll get to visit this site and gather some inspiration from this place, where all of the kings of France were crowned. Then we’ll see the town and have some lunch before visiting one of the larger Champagne houses for a tour and tasting - a great way to compare the small and larger producers! A full day will be spent in Paris of course! Here we’ll enjoy a wine tasting to continue our theme, a walking tour, a visit to one of the city’s famed museums, and end with a scenic boat ride down the Seine for a picturesque dinner setting. Our final day will be spent on site with the hotel’s award winning spa with treatments, time to relax in the indoor pool and spa facilities - a perfect way to wind down the week.

CUISINE

Healthful, vegetarian food is part of the retreat experience, including breakfasts and lunch or dinner daily  - either onsite at the amazing restaurants, in the city at some of the top rated locales, or out on our day trips. We'll taste the regional specialties at the various tastings - from Champagne to French cheeses, and even a Michelin starred tasting menu. We will also visit a fun casual restaurant in the village and have a scenic dinner aboard a boat on the Seine in Paris! You won't leave hungry, and you'll be able to experience how the food is an integral part of this country.

YOGA

Daily meditation and yoga classes will be offered in a way to relax, stimulate, and help guests grow in their own personal practice. Classes are open to all levels, beginner to practiced, and can range from gentle and restorative to more vigorous vinyasa flow and ashtanga styles.* Style and class levels will be determined and moulded to fit participating students' needs, and with a small intimate retreat class size, students will be able to get personalized attention and comfortability to explore their practice. Depending on each retreat location, classes will be held in a dedicated indoor yoga space and some also offer outdoor options as well for us to use if the weather is agreeable.

* Participation in classes and activities is optional throughout the retreat. All levels welcome!

FORM + FOCUS
This retreat will feature Julian Hyzler from EASEL&LENS to combine a look at creative focus with art projects in sketching and "ifonography" (smartphone photography) throughout the week. Yoga and meditation classes will be held daily to prepare our bodies and minds to find a creative way to focus on our excursions through the beautiful countryside. *NO PREVIOUS ART OR YOGA BACKGROUND REQUIRED. All levels are welcome, and participation is voluntary. Projects and classes will be offered as a completely exploratory, unintimidating and personal experience.
